The Association of Greek Crystal Healers (SEK) along with Crystalight and some friends had the pleasure to visit on Sunday (20/03/2011) the Mineralogical Museum of Mr. K.I. Oikonomopoulos in the city of Kalyvia (Thorikos). The museum has been operating since 1995 and has more than 3,000 exhibits of minerals, crystals and fossils from around the world whereas has many gems, rare items, jewelry, etc. for sale.
The wider aisle of the museum is also very nice, as it is surrounded by a large, beautiful and conscientiously cared botanical garden with a variety of plants, herbs, shrubs and rare trees which they have labels with their name and their rich history in some cases.
It is worth mentioning that all of us, even some of us who have a relatively bigger familiarity with crystals and minerals, we were stunned in the sight of all these beautiful pieces in the Museum. This is a collection that not only goes far back in time, having started in the 50s, but also includes artifacts thousands of years old. The museum also accepts visits by schools of primary and secondary education, while also represents a research center for both visual and stereoscopic examination of minerals and other geological research processes.
We thank Mr. Oikonomopoulos both for the opportunity he has given us to see up close as well as purchase some of the excellent minerals that this museum hosts, and we renew our appointment for the near future, as a thorough observation of rocks and their history requires several hours.
We also encourage with all our heart all of you who are dealing with crystals, not only for their therapeutic aspects but also from a general interest in geology and mineralogy, to spend a few hours to visit this museum. The sight of all these treasures of the earth and nature in the magical surroundings of the museum, will surely reward you.
The Mineralogical Museum of CF Economopoulos is located at Paroxthios 1 street, outside Kalyvia Thorikou.
